From Idea to Public Art: A Collaborative Design Thinking Mural Workshop (2.5 hour session)

This interactive workshop blends short lecture segments and group discussion with hands‑on art making to support K–12 visual art teachers to explore how design thinking, materials, constraints and inclusive processes shape successful classroom and community art installations. Participants will learn accessible block‑printmaking techniques and contribute to a collaborative mural. Teachers are invited to bring their ideas, challenges and in‑progress concepts for a group discussion focused on problem‑solving across districts, materials, and installation contexts. By the end, participants will leave with practical strategies, shared insights, and a firsthand experience of how collaboration builds trust and community.
Participants will carve and print a small edition to take home using a variety of papers and printing techniques. The format is 4"x6" with layout shared between portrait and landscape equally for our collaborative mural. Bring your design ideas, questions and readiness for a fun morning of creativity. Examples of alternative materials that meet all budgets and ages will support implementation in your school environment. Large and small collaborative murals will be examined to support problem solving from inception to installation.
